In this course we focus on design methodology of microprocessor based electronic systems. We introduce basics of microprocessor technology and system view on microprocessor systems (processors’ architectures, interrupt systems, I/O interfaces). We focus on electronic systems based on microcontrollers and present basic features and development trends in the area of microcontrollers. We demonstrate selected features by using ADuC 836 8-bit Analog Device microcontroller based on classical Intel 8051 core. In the second part we demonstrate basic application development for 32-bit microcontrollers based on ARM cores by using C language. In the final part we discuss some design problems as well as methods typically used during development of microcontroller based systems. In parallel with theoretical knowledge our students master also practical work experiences with modern microcontroller development tools developed by ARM Keil.
