On June 09 to July 04, 2014 took our doctoral student Martin Sulír part in the 10th International Summer Workshop on Multimodal Interfaces eNTERFACE´14, organized by the University of the Basque Country, Bilbao (Spain). The eNTERFACE workshop was aimed at establishing a tradition of collaborative, localized research and development work by gathering, in a single place, a team of leading professionals in multimodal human-machine interfaces together with students (both graduate and undergraduate), to work on a prespecified list of challenges, for 4 complete weeks. In this respect, it was an innovative and intensive collaboration scheme, designed to allow researchers to integrate their software tools, deploy demonstrators, collect novel databases, and work side by side with a great number of experts. It brought together 80 researchers for a whole month, subsequently it was the largest workshop on multimodal interfaces.

Our doctoral student participated at weekdays along with other researchers and students from Spain, Singapore, China, Vietnam and Germany on project with name Online Platform for obtaining Personalized Synthetic Voices. The primary goal of this project was the design and development of a web interface that allows non-expert users to get their own personalized synthetic voice. This interface could be used, for instance, by people suffering from degenerative pathologies before the symptoms are visible or before surgery to create a “backup” of their voice. To reach a broad audience, the system is intended to be multilingual as far as possible, so the English, Chinese, Spanish, Catalan, Basque, Galician and also the Slovak language are incorporated into the system.

Throughout the stay there were a number of social events & weekend tours focused on getting to know the Basque country. The participants visited many museums and galleries directly in Bilbao headed by the Guggenheim Museum, they also visited the most famous beaches and mountains in Basque country and they learned a lot about this beautiful country.
